Prácticas funerarias en el sitio La Pesa Vieja (C-423 LPV) y su relación con la organización social en la fase Curridabat (300 dc al 800 dc)

Abstract

La presente investigación estudió las prácticas funerarias en el sitio arqueológico La Pesa Vieja (C-423 LPV) y su relación con la organización social en la fase Curridabat (300 d.C a 800 d.C). Para realizar este análisis se incluyeron planteamientos sobre el funcionamiento de los cementerios, lo descrito para el periodo, las ofrendas y la conformación de las fosas. Algunos autores consideran que lo representado en las tumbas puede hablar sobre la vida de quienes fueron enterrados, estatus, jerarquía, roles de trabajo; es por ello que en se estudiaron los artefactos y materiales depositados en 21 de estas y su distribución en cada una. Las inferencias a este estudio fueron realizadas con la colección del Laboratorio de Arqueología Carlos Aguilar Piedra de la Universidad de Costa Rica, sus registros de archivo, documentales y fotografías. Por ende, se realizó análisis de los materiales encontrados y se reconstruyó el contexto a partir de ellos, especialmente cerámica, lítica, orgánicos y sus respectivos documentos. La muestra analizada presentó datos de quienes usaron este cementerio, sus prácticas funerarias relacionadas con el ritual de la rotura de vasijas, el uso de fuego para exponer los materiales y una preparación elaborada al momento de los enterramientos, que es semejante a otros contextos del periodo y que funciona para comprender mejor el desarrollo de prácticas particulares. Finalmente, la investigación permitió generar nuevas ideas sobre el desarrollo y la organización social del periodo Curridabat. Teniendo en cuenta la inclusión de los patrones regionales ya reportados y como se traslapan con motivos propios de la comunidad que utilizó La Pesa Vieja (C-423 LPV).

The present research studied the funerary practices in the archaeological site La Pesa Vieja (C-423 LPV) and its relationship with social organization in the Curridabat phase (300 AD to 800 AD). To carry out this analysis, statements about the functioning of the cemeteries, what was described for the period, the offerings and the conformation of the graves were included. Some authors consider that what is represented in the tombs can speak about the life of those who were buried, status, hierarchy and work roles that is why the artifacts and materials deposited in 21 tombs and their distribution in each one was studied. The inferences to this study were made with the collection of the Carlos Aguilar Piedra Archeology Laboratory of the University of Costa Rica, its archival records, documentaries, and photographs. Therefore, an analysis of the materials found was carried out and the context was reconstructed from them, especially ceramics, lithics, organics and their respective documents. The analyzed sample presented data on those who used this cemetery, their funerary practices related to the ritual of breaking vessels, the use of fire to expose the materials and an elaborate preparation at the time of the burials, which is similar to other contexts of the period and that it works to better understand the development of particular practices. Finally, the research allowed generating new ideas about the development and social organization of the Curridabat period. Considering the inclusion of regional patterns already reported and how they overlap with motifs typical of the community that used La Pesa Vieja (C-423 LPV).
