Abstract
Snake bites are a tropical disease, characterized by the neglect of the different political and public health instances, whose epidemiological target is the lowest social state with limited resources, where the ophidian accident marks the beginning of a possible functional dependence. The chemical composition of snake venom involves a new field of research and implies a possible response to current problems such as antibiotic resistance. The constant update regarding the ophidian accident allows us to know the next medical approaches on poisons and impact on the morbidity of patients who face important complications such as stroke, acute myocardial infarction and compartment syndrome. This review is a compilation of the literature to date on variant clinical pictures, new therapeutics introduced by venomics, associated complementary treatment, and secondary adverse reactions to the application of antivenom.
