Prevalencia y distribución geográfica de los virus PXV, PVY, PVA, PVM, PVS y PLRV en el cultivo de la papa en la zona norte de Cartago, Costa Rica

Abstract

Se realizó un muestreo de papa de la zona norte de la provincia de Cartago, zona de producción de papa en Costa Rica, durante el período comprendido entre febrero y agosto de 1997. Se colectaron hojas terminales de 30 plantas en cada una de las 36 parcelas, ubicadas entre 1400 y 3000 msnm. Las muestras fueron analizadas para la presencia de los virus PVX, PVY, PLRV, PYA, PVM y PVS, mediante DAS-ELISA. Se detectó por lo menos uno de los 6 virus en todas las parcelas incluidas en el estudio. En parcelas individuales, se detectaron en promedio 3 virus. El PYX fue el prevalente, encontrándose en el 92% de las parcelas, seguido por PLRV (72%), PVY (56%), PVM (56%), PYA (33%) y PVS (14%). La prevalencia de cada virus fue similar en las diferentes altitudes.Prevalence and geographic distribution of principal viruses PYX, PVY, PVA, PVM, PVS and PLRV in potato in Costa Rica. Potato leaf samples were collected during the period from February to August 1997 in the northern zone of the Cartago province, the main area of potato production in Costa Rica. Terminal leaves were collected from 30 plants in each of 36 fields located at altitudes between 1400 and 3000 masl. Samples were analyzed for the presence of potato viruses X, Y, A, M, S and potato leafroll virus (PLRV) by DAS-ELISA. At least one virus was detected in all of the fields included in the study, with an average of 3 viruses present in individual fields. PYX was the most prevalent and was detected in 92% of the fields, followed by PLRV(72%), PVY(56%), PVM (56%), PVA(52%) and PVS (14%). The prevalence of each virus was similar at different altitudes.
