This research analyzes the composition of the student body of the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) of Nicaragua between the years of 1961 and 1986. To achieve this, a statistical analysis was applied on academic and socioeconomic data collected by the same university authorities. The UCA was the first private higher education center in Central America, being administered by the Society of Jesus. The main conclusions point to the fact that enrollment in this period was concentrated first in Law and Administration careers and later in Humanities for teacher training. As the new university consolidated, a majority of male students entered, coming from the Central Pacific region (where the capital Managua is located), graduates of private schools and households headed by merchants and professionals who had a high monthly income.
