dc.descriptionThis article analyses from an international perspective the legal implications for Costa Rica on the construction of the road parallel to the San Juan River; the boundary river with Nicaragua, and to the land boundary line. It also analyses Nicaragua`s intentions when suing Costa Rica before the International Court of Justice. Many errors in the management of diplomatic crisis provoked by Nicaragua´s dredging of the San Juan River are mentioned as well as the fact that the “frontier trail” will affect negatively the relations between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. With this road parallel to the boundary and the river, authorities of Costa Rica seem to consider the border zone as a frontline instead of an area for cooperation and exchange.en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo tiene por objetivo el análisis desde la perspectiva internacional de las implicaciones que tiene para Costa Rica la construcción de la denominada “trocha” paralela al Río San Juan, río fronterizo con Nicaragua y  un sector de la frontera terrestre, así como la intención de Nicaragua al presentar una demanda ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia y sus consecuencias para Costa Rica. Son varios los errores en el manejo de la crisis ocasionada por el dragado del San Juan y se concluye que la “trocha fronteriza” viene a deteriorar aún más las relaciones entre Costa Rica y Nicaragua. Con esta trocha paralela, Costa Rica parece considerar la frontera Norte como un verdadero “frente” y no como una zona de cooperación y de intercambio.es
