Abstract
This study examines academic music as a medium of protest and a defense of human dignity, focusing on the works of Manuel Matarrita (Costa Rica) and Mario Rocha (Nicaragua), inspired by exile and migration resulting from Sandinista repression. Through a methodological approach that combines autoethnography, interviews, discussion forums, and action research, it reflects on the Nicaraguan sociopolitical crisis since 2018. The findings demonstrate that lyrical music, within an interdisciplinary framework, transcends its aesthetic dimension to become an instrument of protest, memory, resistance, and social commitment.
