Abstract
This research analyzes intellectual capital as the basis of the success in businesses considering the skills of the entrepreneur in three categories: human capital, structural capital and relational capital. The objective of the research is to list the characteristics of the intellectual capital of the entrepreneurial individual, in contrast to traditional research which focuses on characterizing the intellectual capital of the company, emphasizing the employees and their contribution to the business. Typically, this overlooks the person who had the initial idea and directs the functioning of the organization. The methodology employed to accomplish this task involved, initially, a bibliographic search for soft skills that characterize the qualities of an entrepreneur according to the literature. Once these characteristics were identified, they were classified into the three categories mentioned at the beginning. Subsequently, in a fieldwork phase, interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs to directly verify, through their testimony, whether these characteristics represented them and to provide their proper justification. Additionally, other elements that could be included were also explored during this phase. At the end, a validated list of the characteristics of the entrepreneur's intellectual capital has been obtained, which helps to enhance a business. The success of the business is undoubtedly closely linked to the ability of the entrepreneur who directs it, and it is important, from the academy and for the development of public policies, to understand these capacities, skills and competencies that enhance the generation of new ventures.
