Abstract
This intervention aims to answer the following question: What could be the format of a clinical psychological intervention process with a cognitive-narrative approach (that includes elements of creative processes) that would enable three recently diagnosed women with breast cancer to generate emotional resources that would allow them to have a good attitude and quality of life in the face of their illness? This in turn highlights the use of a post- rationalist approach, such as the cognitive-narrative approach, combined with creative techniques to develop a general objective of an intervention proposal of clinical psychology under this approach and creative expression techniques in newly diagnosed women with cancer focusing on emotional aspects and quality of life. At the same time, among the specific objectives, there is the chance to develop a summarized life story for these women to assess the impact of their illness within their emotional sphere and quality of life. This is to select the appropriate cognitive-narrative psychotherapeutic techniques (that includes elements of creative processes) to determine the clinical value of the applied techniques and their impact on emotional experience and quality of life. Ten sessions were held, and each one was developed around or complemented with a creative technique within the cognitive-narrative focus. The objective was to visualize, in an artistic way, the episodic memory, the objectification, the subjectification, the metaphorization, and finally the projection of the change that each of them could achieve not only during the process but also as a resource for their future. Thus, highlighting the use of creative or expressive techniques as a complement to the narrative technique used in each therapy session as a way to develop the use of physical, tangible metaphors, created by themselves, a greater awareness of their current moment of life, or unresolved past outcomes, thereby making important connections to detach themselves from the “problem”, which in this case is their recent cancer diagnosis.
