Abstract
Neighbors of the western sector of the Central Valley requested technical collaboration to the Transportation Research Program PITRA-LanammeUCR, related to the improvement of the section San José - San Ramón in the National Route No.1. Engineers from the Management and Evaluation of the National Road Network Department PITRA-LanammeUCR, conducted a comprehensive analysis of the current pavement conditions, using as a basis the results of the Evaluation Report of the National Paved Road Network of Costa Rica 2012-2013. Starting from this condition, general improvement strategies were defined, as well as the increment of the number of lanes in different sections, in order to bring the pavement optimal structural and functional conditions. The study included a financial estimate of the costs associated with these interventions.
