Abstract
Se hizo una revisión bibliográfica sobre la pudrición blanca o torbó de la cebolla, enfermedad causada por el hongo Sclerotium cepivorum Berk. Se tomaron en cuenta aspectos como la distribución de la enfermedad a escala mundial, la sintomatología típica, el agente causal y los hospederos, así como el ciclo de vida del patógeno y la epidemiología de la enfermedad, además de las principales estrategias de combate.
Se menciona brevemente la importancia del cultivo de la cebolla en el país, las zonas de siembra y el impacto de la enfermedad.
A literature review on onion white rot or “torbó”, caused by the fungus Sclerotium cepivorum Berk. was performed. This review includes its world distribution, typical symptoms, causal agent, hosts, pathogen life cycle, epidemiology and disease control strategies. A brief description of the importance of onion crop in Costa Rica, areas where it is produced and the main disease impact were also included.
