Abstract
José María Figueroa Oreamuno, se destacó por su labor en diferentes áreas durante el siglo XIX. Además de explorador se destacó en las áreas de etnografía, historia y cartografía. Además, sobresale como ilustrador y caricaturista. Su investigación genealógica no tiene igual en la Centroamérica de su época. Su trabajo histórico recopila información de cuatro siglos diferentes. El aporte de José María Figueroa es un monumento a la historia y cultura de Costa Rica.

In addition to being an explorer, his work highlighted in the areas of ethnography, history and cartography. In addition, his genealogical research stands out, which in his time had no equal in Central America. His historical work collects information from four different centuries.
