Este artículo presenta un panorama de la pesca artesanal en Costa Rica. En primer lugar se consideran los mercados regionales de pesca. Luego se describe la situación de la pesca en Centroamérica y Costa Rica, mostrando cómo esta responde a un modelo regional que se expresa de manera diferenciada en los distintos países y costas. Posteriormente, se ofrecen datos sobre la situación económica, social, ambiental e institucional de las actividades pesqueras en Costa Rica y se reflexiona en torno al impacto de la reciente crisis económica en las actividades agropecuarias y en los mercados de pesca. Finalmente, se analizan algunas de las alternativas productivas y organizativas que se han generado en torno a la pesca artesanal en los últimos años, y se identifican algunos desafíos para las poblaciones y organizaciones de pesca en Guanacaste. La información que se ofrece pretende ser un insumo para la construcción de herramientas para la organización e incidencia política, comunitaria e institucional.
This article presents a landscape of artisanal fishing in Costa Rica. First, it considers regional fishery markets. It then describes the state of fisheries in Central America and Costa Rica, showing how it responds to a regional model that manifests differently in different countries and coasts. After this, the article provides data on the economic, social, environmental and institutional fishing in Costa Rica and reflects on the impact of the recent economic crisis in farming and fishing markets. Finally, it discusses some of the productive and organizational alternatives that have been generated around artisanal fisheries in recent years and identifies some challenges to the populations and fishery organizations in Guanacaste. The data provided is intended as an input of information for the construction of tools for the organization and political, communitarian and institutional incidence.
