Abstract
cáncer, a nivel mundial.
Colorectal cancer is responsible for approximately 10% of all types of cancer diagnosed annually and of all cancer related deaths worldwide. The colorrectal cancer screening worldwide has demonstrated to lower the incidence and mortality rates of the Disease (1). In Costa Rica from 2017 to 2019 the first organized screening program for colorrectal cancer was made, this was the first program of this type implemented in Central America. Fifty three thousand and three patients from Cartago province (first round) were invited to participate, from this 46848 patients where screened, overcoming the established goal for participation. Fifty patients where diagnosed with colorectal cancer and also 863 premalignant lesions. Proper treatment was offer to all patients, endoscopically or surgically accordingly. It was shown that its feasible to establish an organized screening program in a developing country.
