La Producción científica indexada de América Central y República Dominicana

Abstract

Se presentan los resultados de un estudio sobre el comportamiento de la producción científica visible de América Central y República Dominicana, sobre la base de datos Scopus®, que muestra las debilidades e inclinaciones del desarrollo científico y tecnológico del área seleccionada. Para ello se aplicó un estudio bibliométrico descriptivo que abarcó los datos de producción de los ocho países, en todas las disciplinas, entre los años 2001-2011. Los resultados muestran que la producción es escasa, que la colaboración institucional es incipiente, que dos países sobresalen en cuanto a citas recibidas y las universidades se mantienen como las instituciones más productivas en el área. Finalmente, se ofrecen algunas recomendaciones para avanzar en la visibilidad y las citaciones en el futuro.

The results of a study of the behavior of Central America’s and Dominican Republic’s scientific production on the Scopus® database are presented, they show the weaknesses and trends on the selected area’s scientific and technological development .A descriptive bibliometric study was applied, ranging production data from the eight countries in all topics between the years 2001 and 2011. The results show that the production is scarce, the international collaboration is incipient, two countries excel regarding the citations received, and the universities keep their position as the most productive institutions in the area. Finally, some recommendations are offered to increase the visibility and citations in the future.
