La investigación artística en las artes visuales: estudio de tres casos en la Universidad de Costa Rica

Abstract

El presente artículo busca indagar el concepto de investigación artística en las artes visuales, a partir del estudio del trabajo de tres artistas costarricenses vinculados a la Universidad de Costa Rica: Elizabeth Thompson, José Pablo Ureña y Alberto Murillo. En el proceso se revisan brevemente tres enfoques del concepto: investigación artística sobre las artes, investigación artística en las artes e investigación artística para las artes. A su vez, se analizan las preguntas ontológica, epistemológica y metodológica, propuestas por Henk Borgdorff (2006), a la luz de lo expuesto por los artistas entrevistados, para delimitar el ámbito de la investigación artística, de otros similares. Finalmente, se propone una aproximación al concepto de investigación artística en las artes visuales.

This article inquires about the concept of artistic research in visual arts from the study of the work of three Costa Rican artists associated to the University of Costa Rica: Elizabeth Thompson, José Pablo Ureña and Alberto Murillo. In the process, we briefly review the following three approaches to the concept: artistic research about visual arts, artistic research within the arts and artistic research for the arts. Also, we analyze the ontological, the epistemological and the methodological questions proposed by Henk Borgdorff (2006), based on the contributions of the interviewed artists, in order to define the scope of artistic research from others alike. Finally, we propose an approximation to the concept of artistic research in visual arts.
