Abstract
nuestro pujante campo audiovisual.
This paper focuses on the use of narrative language in Costa Rican feature-length fiction films. A sample of 15 works released between 2008 and 2012 are studied using theoretical and analytical tools taken from film semiotics and narratology, with the purpose of discovering dominant patterns in narrative content, structure and genre to reach a better understanding of the type of stories that are currently being told by our thriving audiovisual field. The results intend to go beyond academic abstraction and serve as reference points so that people interested in this topic may have a clearer perspective of the tendencies they can emulate, improve or transgress; the niches and opportunities they can benefit from; and the responsibility entailed by the act of telling stories through the audiovisual media.
