Abstract
El presente trabajo consiste en una revisión bibliográfica actualizada sobre la Blastomicosis, una enfermedad poco frecuente y endémica de América del Norte, pero que también ha reportado casos autóctonos en otras partes del mundo como; por ejemplo, en toda África y con menos frecuencia en India, Medio Oriente y ocasionalmente Europa, por lo que hoy más que nunca nuestro país debe tener presente que no está exento de presentar casos debido al creciente fenómeno de la migración.
En esta revisión se abordan aspectos como la descripción de los agentes etiológicos causantes de la enfermedad, aspectos epidemiológicos como la distribución geográfica, fuentes de infección, factores de virulencia, cuadros clínicos, métodos diagnósticos, así como los esquemas de tratamiento de acuerdo con la clínica de la enfermedad.
This study consists of an updated literature review on Blastomycosis, a rare disease that is endemic to North America, but has also reported indigenous cases in other parts of the world, such as throughout Africa and, less frequently, in India, the Middle East, and occasionally Europe. Therefore, now more than ever, our country must be aware that it is not exempt from presenting cases due to the increasing phenomenon of migration. This review addresses aspects such as the description of the etiological agents causing the disease, epidemiological aspects like geographic distribution, sources of infection, virulence factors, clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, as well as treatment regimens according to the clinical presentation of the disease.
