Abstract

Chondroscaphe yamilethiae Pupulin, Vanishing Beauty 1:111. 2005. Type: Costa Rica. Puntarenas: Buenos Aires, Holán, 1,200–1,300 m, collected by C. Arguedas, 2000, flowered in cultivation in the collection of J. Cambronero in San Isidro de Pérez Zeledén, 20 April 2003, F. Pupulin 4701 (USJ). Epiphytic, caespitose herb up to 35 cm tall. Roots coarse, flexuous, 2.0–2.5 mm in diameter. Leaves 5–7, membranaceous, the conduplicate base 4–5 cm long, the blade narrowly oblanceolate, acuminate, 10–30 × 1.8–4.0 cm, the central vein distinctly protruding abaxially, medium to dark green. Inflorescence basal, a cincinnus of one-flowered axes, completely hidden within the axils of lower sheaths; the peduncle terete, arched-pendent, to 4 cm long, provided with one or two basal, tubular-infundibuliform bracts. Floral bracts in pairs, the outer one infundibular, ovate, 9 × 6 mm, the subopposite inner bractlet much smaller, ligulate, 5 × 2 mm. Ovary and pedicel terete, scarcely distinct, 1.8 cm long.
