Las narrativas emergentes del selfi artístico

Abstract

This thesis is focused on the phenomenon of the selfie as a contemporary artistic practice exhibited on virtual spaces in social media platforms and web platforms of contemporary art institutions. On this basis, this study aims to analyze the significance of its emerging narratives. For this purpose, a careful analysis is conducted on the technical, aesthetical, “pluri-authorial”, and curatorial effects on some of the emerging narratives of the selfie. As an imperative step, this research will require the evaluation of the role of production resources and digital edition in the selfie making, the characterization of the disruption of authorship, and the role of the virtual space in the narrative and curatorial proposals of the selfie. The main purpose of this study is not only to defend the selfie as an art form but also to introduce its narrative proposals as valuable innovations in the photography genre.

Esta investigación centrará sus esfuerzos en el estudio del fenómeno de la fotografía selfi en tanto práctica artística contemporánea en sus espacios de exhibición, tanto en las redes sociales virtuales de sus productores como en plataformas web de instituciones del arte contemporáneo. A partir de ello, se propone analizar los alcances técnicos, estéticos, “pluriautoriales” y curatoriales de algunas de sus narrativas emergentes. Este propósito principal precisará del examen del papel de los recursos de producción y edición digital, de la caracterización de sus rupturas con las nociones tradicionales de autoría y finalmente de la identificación del rol del espacio virtual en su narrativa y sus propuestas curatoriales. Con esto no solo se pretende defender sus cualidades artísticas sino también la innovación de sus propuestas narrativas para el género fotográfico.
