dc.description.abstract | This paper focuses on the relatioships among ethnicity, gender and the issue of citizenship developed during the first half of the twentieth century among the Afro-Costa Rican community, by analyzing samples of journalistic discourse that emerged in anglophone Afro-Costa Rican newspapers of the epoch in light of “white” Costa Rican nationalist ideals. Particular attention is paid to Dolores Joseph’s work as a way to illustrate the notions of respectability, decency and honorability that the Afro-West Indian descendant elite tried to articulate to gain the Costa Rican national status. | es_ES |
| es_ES |
