El Silencio de un océano, Le Corbusier en América Latina: El Arte de Arquitecturar desde la gráfica.

Abstract

Resumen Le Corbusier, el arquitecto más importante del movimiento moderno, emprende un viaje hacia el Sur de América en 1929 con el fin conquistarla y traer la luz a los hermanos separados por el silencio de un océano. Desde esta perspectiva, este trabajo de investigación pretende revisar el aporte de Le Corbusier en América Latina desde los registros de viaje de 1929 publicados en el texto de 1930 Precisiones: Respecto al estado actual de la arquitectura y el urbanismo. Dicho texto se utilizará como recurso argumental para abordar la reflexión sobre la materialidad en arquitectura, desde la que se fundamenta la premisa del arte de arquitecturar, que refiere a cómo la arquitectura y su registro se construyen. Dentro de la lógica capitular y en función de los objetivos propuestos, el capítulo I refiere al planteamiento de investigación. Por su parte, el abordaje del capítulo II se hará desde “El prólogo americano” (primera parte del texto Precisiones), en este se utiliza la lógica del viaje y su crónica como marco epistemológico. Seguidamente, en el capítulo III se utiliza el material producido en dos de sus conferencias y se reflexiona sobre el sentido que juega la condición material en la arquitectura; se enfoca la naturaleza del dibujo como medio para realizar el acto arquitectural, entendido este como la acción de poner en orden las ideas. Finalmente, en el capítulo IV se ofrece un acercamiento a la condición material y la naturaleza matérica de la gráfica en términos del pensar desde el dibujo y las implicaciones que existen entre la idea, la palabra, y el dibujo. Otro presupuesto –no menos importante– que se manejará, es que a pesar de que el maestro se vinculó con el sur de América por más de cuatro décadas, el legado –visto como luz en sus propios términos– más importante que deja de Le Corbusier al subcontinente viene a ser, precisamente, este material gráfico y las conferencias dictadas en Bs. As. en 1929 y en esta tesis se explícita el porqué de ello.

Le Corbusier, the most important architect of the Modern Movement, goes on a journey to different southern cities in South America in 1929 to conquer them and shed light into those brothers, separated from us by a silent ocean. From that perspective, this research is intended to review Le Corbusier´s contribution to Latin America based on the findings of the aforementioned journey. Such findings were published in 1930 under the title: Precisions: On the Present State of Architecture and City Planning, which serves as an argumentative resource to board the reflection on materiality in architecture, where the premise of the art of making architecture derives from. In other words, this art refers to how architecture and its register are built. Chapter wise, based on the stated objectives, Chapter 1 refers to the research proposal. On the other hand, the introduction to chapter II will focus on “An American Prologue” (firs part of the text Precisions) using the logic behind the journey and its chronicle as the epistemological frame. In chapter III, this research will concentrate on two of Le Corbusier´s conferences and the role of material conditions in architecture. Special considerations will be given to the nature of drawing as a means to come out with the architectural act, which is a process to clarify ideas. In chapter IV, this research will approach the issues of material conditions and material nature from a graphical perspective based on thinking out of the drawing and its implications on ideas, the words and the drawing. Another key proposal in this research will address the issue of how the Master, who was immersed in several southern cities in South America for more than four decades, left a legacy, which can be seen as light under his own terms. This legacy is, unquestionably, his graphic material and conferences given in Bs.As. in 1929. Let´s get to it now.
