En Alajuela los de mayor potencial de producción fueron BAC 75, PVN 458, PVN 344, PVN 446, VRA 40 y Talamanca.; One hundred and ninety commom bean cultivrs from the International Center for Tropical Agricultire (CIAT Preliminary Trials, EP81) and 203 red and black cultivars from the germoplasm bank of the Fabio Baudrit M. Experimental Station, Alajuela, Costa Rica were tested in two zones simultaneously; Alajuela (considered optimal for bean grouth in Costa Rica) and Cañas, Guanacaste (High temperatures and strong wind zone) at two planting dates. The cultivars tested showed different behavoir in both localities and at the different planting dates. Great genetic variability was apparent under Cañas conditions, and the cultivars that demonstrated good adaptation in this zone were not necessarily suitable for Alajuela. In Cañas the best cultivars were: PVN 484, PVN 457, PVN 469 and Talamanca. In Alajuela BAC 75, PVN 458, PVN 344, PVN 446, VRA 40 and Talamanca showed the greatest production potencial.

(Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) en repollo (Brassica oleracea var. capitata)https://hdl.handle.net/10669/786132021-05-04T21:16:12Z1983-01-01T00:00:00ZCombate biológico y químico de Plutella xylostella L. (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) en repollo (Brassica oleracea var. capitata); Biological and chemical control of Plutella xylostella in cabbage Brassica oleraceas var. capitata
El insecticida químico Dimilín (PH 60-40) PM no tuvo efecto alguno sobre la plaga, debido a que se comportó igual que el testigo.; Biological and chemical insecticides were tested for the control of Plutella xylostella, the most economically important insect pest of cabbage in Alfaro Ruíz zone, Alajuela, Costa Rica. The chemical insecticide Decis (decametrine) 2.5 E.C. at the rate of 0,4 1/ha showed the best control and together with Bactospeine (Bacillus thuringiensis) L.P. 1,2 1/ha produce the highest yield of comercial cabbage. No statistical differences were found between the two treatments. The chemical insecticide Dimilín (PH 60-40) WP did not provide control of the pest.

The variable studies on the hybrid corn Tico H-1 were: a. planting distances of 0.25m between plants and 0.75 and 1.0m between rows b. herbicide dosages of 0, 1.25 and 2.5 kg i.a./ha of Atrazine; and c. fertilization of 0-0-0, 90-26-0, and 180-52-0 kg/ha of N-P-K fórmulas. The most profitable system consisted of: a. planting corn at a distances of 0.75m between rows; b. fertilizing at a rate of 90 and 26 kg/ha of nitrogen and phosphorus, respectively; and c. applying 2.5 kg a.i./ha atrazine, post-emergence.

En el laboratorio el cultivar Snow Diana y el Snow Crown tuvieron la mejor apariencia, color, sabor y textura.; Three cauliflower cultivars were plated at Fraijanes, Alajuela, to evaluate agronomic performance, yield, profitability, organol eptic characteristics in the laboratory and market visual acceptance. The greater profitability (214,55%) was obtained with the Snow Diana cultivar, followed by cv. Snow Crown and Snow Ball X with 153,39 and 13,65% rates, respectively. Greater consummer acceptance was granted to cv. Snow Diana (83, 33% preference). In the laboratory, cvs. Snow and Snow Crown had the best appearance, color, flavor and texture.
