Ítem About Literacies and Competences in the Digital Age: Case Study(2014-01-01 00:00:00) Castaño Muñoz, WilsonThere is a lot of information about what digital skills people should have to communicate successfully on the internet. The literature on the subject refers to a range of disciplinary fields that analyze the different meanings and variables of the term "Literacy" (Bawden, 2002), although these notions are more related to library and information science. This article outlines some concepts and terms that are intended to describe the competences and skills in information management that a person must have to be considered information literate. Finally, this paper presents the results of a research made on researchers at the Institute of Political Studies of the University of Antioquia (IPS), Medellin, Colombia. Some of their skills and literacies are analyzed, related to how they search and retrieve information and the level of knowledge researchers need to have to function in an environment that has changed substantially from the traditional paper format, which they were fully used to, to an increasing prevalence of electronic and digital media.Ítem An approach to the digital divide in Costa Rica from the point of view of access, connectivity and digital literacy(2014-01-01 00:00:00) Muñoz Alvarado, María Daniela; Nicaragua Nicaragua, RosaThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the current state of the digital divide in Costa Rica through a bibliographic review on the issues of access to technology, connectivity and digital literacy. It investigates how the six states with the highest European GDP make such information available to the public on their websites. The aim is to assess how it has affected its implementation in these countries. The methodology consisted, on the one hand, on analyzing the legislation to identify its scope and, secondly, on providing a test of information retrieval to compare search results. In conclusion, it is shown that there is a great disparity in the volume of data offered between states, in the different classification systems, in the deficiencies about the formal description and in the number of results in the retrieval of information. Therefore an advance in the interoperability of data is proposed, with greater control of documentary language.Ítem Library services accessible to the visually impaired at the National University of La Plata, Argentina(2013-12-17 16:33:06) Corda, María Cecilia; Ferrante, MarianaThe purpose of this work, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, is to better understand the condition of some of the university libraries of the UNLP when it comes to offering services accessible to people with visual impairment.
