Objectives: to compare three sweet pepper types (conical, square, and rectangular) grown under protected conditions. Methodology: the crop was grown on coconut fiber as a substrate, and managed with fertigation, and the following variables were evaluated: plant height (PH), leaf area (LA), stem diameter (SD), stem length (SL), fruit length (FL), fruit width (FW), fruit length/width ratio (L/W), pericarp thickness (PT), age at harvest start (AHS), number of fruits per plant (NFP), average fruit weight (AFW), and commercial (CY) and total yield (TY). Results: compared to the other sweet pepper types in this evaluation, conical peppers showed the lowest AFW, FW and PT, as well as the highest L/W and total NFP. On the other hand, square peppers showed the lowest PH, LA, FL and L/W, as well as the highest FW and PT. There were no significant differences between sweet pepper types for the following variables: SD, AHS, NFP of first quality, and TY and CY. Conclusions: square pepper production may be the best option for growers in Costa Rica as fruit prices double that of conical pepper, but its market size is smaller.
