Inventario de la variabilidad genética del zapote (Pouteria sapota) en Costa Rica

Abstract

La información suministrada en el presente trabajo forma parte del proyecto de la Red Mesoamericana de Recursos Fitogenéticos (REMERFI), denominado ‘Recursos Genéticos de Sapotáceas en Costa Rica’. Este proyecto está siendo ejecutado en el Programa de Recursos Fitogenéticos de la Estación Experimental Fabio Baudrit , Facultad de Agronomía, Universidad de Costa Rica, con recursos aportados por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), canalizados por medio del Instituto Internacional de Recursos Fitogenéticos (IPGRI). En esta primera etapa del proyecto, con una duración de dos años (1995-1996), se realizó un inventario nacional con la finalidad de identificar la variabilidad y peligro de erosión genética del zapote. Para realizar el inventario, se recopiló la información presente en herbarios y bancos de datos del Museo Nacional, Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad y el Centro Agronómico de Investigación y Enseñanza. Con esta información se hizo un mapeo del país que muestra las áreas de mayor diversidad genética, que sirvió como herramienta para planear la recolección de materiales en las diferentes zonas del país. La información recolectada incluye datos pasaporte, datos de recolección, datos de caracterización y una encuesta etnobotánica. Un síntesis y análisis de la información colectada se presenta en este trabajo.

The information submited in the present work, is part of a project of the ‘Red Mesoamericana de Recursos Fitogenéticos’ (REMERFI), named ‘Genetic Resources of Sapotaceae in Costa Rica’. This project is being conducted by the Program of Plant Genetic Resources of the Fabio Baudrit Experimental Station, Agronomy Faculty, University of Costa Rica. The financial resources were granted by the ‘Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo’ (BID), channeled through the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI). In its first stage, with a two year duration, a nation wide inventory is being conducted with the objective of identifing the genetic variability and genetic erosion of the zapote (P. sapota) in Costa Rica. Previous to the begining of the inventory, the informa- tion furnished by the herbaria and data banks of the Na- tional Museum, the National Institute of Biodiversity and the “Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza” (CATIE), was compiled. With this information on hand a mapping of the country was done, showing the areas with grater diversity of the species. Collecting trips were planned based on the mapping information. The information obtained with the inventory includes entries, collecting and characterization data and etnobotanic information. A summmary and analysis of the information gathered during the first year of the project, is presented in this document.
