The agronomic behavior of 15 red-common bean (Phaselous vulgaris L.) cultivars, released by the Central American Adaptation and Yield Nursery, VICAR 85, and a local cultivar were evaluated on two planting dates (May and September, 1985) at the Fabio Baudrit Experiment station in Alajuela and at Brisas de Cajon - Perez Zeledon in San Jose, Costa Rica. The cultivars showing the best temporal stability, on the first planting date in Alajuela were Revolution 79 and RAB 58. For the second planting date the best cultivars were RAB 59 and Zamorano. In the trial in Perez Zeledon, on the first planting date, the best cultivars were Mexico 80, RAB 64 and Zamorano. During the second planting date, the RAB 58 and Centa Izalco cultivars showed the best temporal stability. The highest yields were obtained in Alajuela because of its climatic and soil conditions. The local cultivar (Mexico 80) used as the control, although it was surpassed in production by all the other cultivars during both planting dates in Alajuela, it was the most stable cultivar when analyzing both localities and planting dates.en_US
