This article aims to settle some initial grounds concerning the research entitled Periodismo maçônico, política e opinião pública na Corte imperial brasileira (1870-1875), which is being developed in the scope of the Universidade Federal Fluminense History Post-Graduation Program (PPGH/UFF) with financial support by Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). The presence of the Masonic press widespread through the Brazilian imperial Court is being investigated in this research, especially during the period between 1870 and 1875, trying to expose its role not only in the formation of the public opinion but also in the construction of the modern public sphere. At first, analyses are being made on the Brazilian Masonry official journals, which are stored in the sections of Periódicos and Obras Raras of Biblioteca Nacional, located in the city of Rio de Janeiroes-ES
