Eliot, manifiesta tres influencias religiosas principales: el cristianismo, el budismo y el hinduismo, sistemas de pensamiento que comúnmente se perciben como incompatibles entre sí. Sin embargo, el más grande logro de Eliot en el poema es presentar dichos sistemas religiosos como partes de un todo y no como fuerzas divergentes.en-US
