Cholera El Tor in Latin America, 1991-1993
Abstract
Cholera El Tor appeared in Peru in 1991 and spread rapidly to nearly all neighboring countries. The disease evolved more explosively than anything recorded since the beginning of the 7th pandemic in Sulawesi (the Celebes) in 1961. National epidemics varied in magnitude according to prevailing levels of poverty, health education, sanitation, risk factors and response from the community at large.
