A retrospective study was conducted in patients studied for celiac disease, referred to CIHATA from January 2013 to June 2015. A total of 201 patients were analyzed, 70% were women, 44% presented at least one of the haplotypes associated with celiac disease, and 68% presented the DQ8 haplotype. Although these results cannot be generalized to the C draw to attention the prevalence of the DQ8 haplotype over the DQ2 haplotype. Further analysis must be carried out to determine the prevalence of these haplotypes in the Costa Rican population and within people with the disease.
En el salón la causa de muerte fue neumonía, y en el hogar, la enfermedad de fondo.; The mortality of patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit is an important concern but is expected given their poor health. Similarly, mortality after discharge from these units is an important topic given the resources and time that has been invested in this patients.
An observational, prospective descriptive study was conducted for a year to follow patients admitted in a third level Intensive Care Unit.
During the first 6 months 240 patients were admitted to the unit, 15 of they died in the first 24 hours and 35 (14.5%) during the rest of the stay. 5 patients (2%) died on ward, another 5 died in the period of 28 post-hospital discharge and 11 patients died over the next 6 months after hospital discharge. Survival of patients discharged reached 86%.
The most frequent diagnoses of death in the unit were septic shock, ischemic heart disease, acute pancreatitis and politraumatism. In hospital wards the cause of death was pneumonia, and at home, the underlying disease.
